And so farewell. Parting is such sweet sorrow.

Dear Huffle Mawson

Thank you for allowing us to adopt you seven years ago, when you had spent so many months in the shelter, no-one looking at you because you were black, and shy.

Thank you for making us laugh with your antics. From the time you "caught" the gecko, to the time you actually caught the dragonfly, and that one time you caught a fly with your paw and couldn't quite believe it, and lifted up your paw to check, only to let the fly get away.

Thank you for always politely asking for ham (every single day) and for loving prawns nearly as much as ham - actually I think you loved prawns more than ham, but they were a special infrequent treat.

Thank you for being the conduit to making so many wonderful friends all around the world. It was wonderful to see so many of your friends post lovely tributes to you on their blogs in the last couple of weeks.

Thank you for being the sweetest kitty to grace our lives. Huffledad and I are going to miss you so much.

Love, Mum and Dad

Huffle22

Thank you to everyone for your kind words over the passing of our dear Huffle. We are just heartbroken, even more so because it happened while we were away. We take comfort in the fact Huffle was with her grandpa, whom she loved so much, at the very end. She did not suffer. And she knew she was loved for the seven years she lived with us, although we could not make up for the first five years of her life that were so hard.

Huffle was a special girl, and leaves a big hole in our hearts.

Teddy is adjusting to life as an only cat. He will continue blogging next year, but on his own blog: Teddy Westlife - Don't Bite. I'll be moving over his posts from Huffle's blog slowly over the coming weeks.

Thank you everyone, for being our friends.

Huffle Mawson's Medical Monday

Two weeks ago, I had a very bad day.  I threw up five times in one day and that is a lot for any kitty.  I also cried a bit when dad picked me up.  Dad was very worried about me (so was mum) so I had to go to the dreaded vet the next day.  I peed on the carrier while dad tried to put me in it, so he knows how I feel about that.

The vet weighed me, and I am getting smaller!  I only weight 2.95kg which is not very much at all.  I also have a dodgy hip (that is the technical term for it) from when I was badly treated as a young cat.  The vet says I am starting to get arthritis in my hip as well which makes me feel sick and very sore and tired.

So now I get to eat kitten food, which is the best food ever.  I am allowed to eat as much as I want because I am a bit on the skinny side.  Teddy is not allowed to eat any of my kitten food, despite his best efforts.  I also had a course of Meloxicam on my food, which I didn't really like but it seems to have helped as yesterday I sprinted up and down the hallway all day, having fun.  I am feeling much better now.

AND I caught a mouse last week!  Well, Teddy caught a mouse and brought it in the house and let it go.  At 2am.  Mum and dad were much less excited than I was, especially since I caught it all by myself!  I wasn't happy when dad took it from me either.

p.s. that photo me is a few months old, I am looking a bit thinner and have more white whiskers these days.

Ask Huffle Thursday

Mr Puddy asked me this question a little while back.  what bring your pawrents to adopted you ? and When you first met your pawrents at the Cat Protection Society. Did you flirt them ? and How ? Me and Mom just love to know the love story when you met your pawrents : )

Well, it's kind of a long story.  If you really want to know, keep reading.

When dad first met mum, nearly eight years ago, he had a cat (poo-face Salvador) and she had a dog (Maxine the rotti).  Dad had just bought a new house and was talking about getting another cat to keep Salvador company.  She decided that for Christmas 2005, she would get him a cat as a present.  Now we all know that a cat (or dog) is not just for Christmas, but she was fairly certain that dad would look after a cat.

So on 28 December they went to visit the Cat Protection Society in Melbourne to find a brother or sister for Salvador.  There was a nice grey kitty they saw first, but another family had already decided to adopt him.  They kept looking and eventually narrowed it down to two kitties - me and another one who looked a bit like poo-face Salvador.

They went inside to ask the staff about our details - age, sex, temperament, etc.  Dad forgot the number that was on the other kitty's tag so he went back out to check it, and that other cat bit him!  Dad decided right there and then that I was the cat for him, because I was a nice quiet girl who didn't bite him.  I just sat on the shelf in the shelter and looked sad.  I was very sad, because I had been there for three months and no-one had even asked about adopting me.  It's hard for black cats to get adopted sometimes; for some reason people are scared of black cats.  But dad said I was a pretty girl and he would take me home.

I have been here ever since.  Mum moved in with us in 2006, and we have been a happy family from that day.

I bet you didn't know that even though mum is the one who helps me with my blog, I am actually daddy's girl!

Monday Meme

My dear friend Mr Puddy tagged me to do this meme ages ago and I nearly forgot!  But I am doing it now.  Sorry it's taken me so long, Mr Puddy.  Here are the questions.

1. Do I think I'm hot?

I am not sure about this, I mean I like to be toasty and last summer when it was over 40 deg C I was lying out in the sun, so I was hot then.  But not all the time.

2. Upload a picture or wallpaper I am using.

Broome 32

This is the desktop on mum's iMac at the moment, which is where I sit to do my blogging. It's Cable Beach in Broome.

3. When was the last time I ate chicken?

Every time mum cooks chicken I am allowed to have a little bit. So I get chicken at least once a week.

4. The song I listened to most recently?

The last song that was played on Apple TV today was Empire State of Mind by Alicia Keys. Mum thinks she can sing like that, but she can't really.

5. What am I thinking while I am doing this?

I am thinking about taking another nap!

6. Do I have nicknames?

Soooo many nicknames:
Huffy
PawsyMaws
Huffaluffagus
Little Girl
Snoopy Pawson
Those are just a few of my nicknames.

7. Tag 8 bloggie friends.

Okay I don't like to tag friends because a) I am lazy and b) I don't want anyone to miss out. If you would like to do this meme please go ahead! Let me know so I can come and see your answers.

Special Friend on Friday

Ever since my boyfriendcat MrSippi went to the bridge in 2009, I have been a little bit lonely.  Oh sure, I can amuse myself most of the time, and frankly there's no room for another cat in my toasty bed, but every now and then a girl needs a special friend to snuggle with.

Well, a very special boy in Las Vegas (baby!) has shown me his CV to see if I might be interested in being a cougar.  I'm a panther but let's not get caught up in semantics.

Huffle 512

So I thought it might be a good idea to submit my CV to CC and see if he feels the same way about me...

All about Huffle Mawson
  1. I am a black cat, with three white furs on my right side.
  2. I have two white whiskers, also on the right side.
  3. I am ten years old, and I have lived with my family for five years.
  4. I have very soft furs, and nice smelling breath.
  5. I like ham, but I think I like prawns more.
  6. I don't really like fish.
  7. I caught a dragonfly once.
  8. I don't like anyone to touch my back paws - I bit dad the other day when he tried.
  9. My purr is so loud that sometimes mum can hear it from another room.
  10. I am a big fan of watching sport on TV, especially cricket.

I hope that CC thinks my CV is okay, and likes me too!

About Me

My name is Huffle Mawson. I am a black cat. My real name is Stella but because I huff at things my mum nicknamed me Huffle, and the name has stuck. My second name is Mawson because I am an Explorer Cat, and I was named after Sir Douglas Mawson, the Antarctic explorer.

Mum and dad rescued me from the Cat Protection Society in December 2005. I had an older brother, Salvador, but he wasn't very nice to me. I tried to be his friend but he just didn't like me. Salvador went to the bridge in February 2009.

I live in Melbourne, Australia with my mum and dad.
