Lazy cat

I haven't done much lately. Dad threw one of my mouses for me to chase and I accidentally crashed into the wall so I haven't been feeling like doing much. According to mum, I concertinaed up like an accordian when I hit the wall. I blame dad.

Sunday morning was good. Dad got up early to play some computer game online so mum and I stayed in bed late. I slept under the doona from 6.30am to 11am! When I got up mum asked if I was feeling alright! I was fine, just a bit sleepy. And the weather's been a bit cold. Not much point going outside when it's raining all the time.

My aunt (mum's sister) came over yesterday. She didn't bring me any new mouses either. Not good enough. I will claw her next time I see her. Then maybe she'll learn!

Oh, some exciting news. Mum is getting a new computer with new video editing software so I can maybe put some videos up on my blog! That would be exciting.

Telly show cat!

It was so exciting today! Dad came home from work at lunchtime coz he forgot something, and he went out in the backyard to get Salvador and he heard a kitty crying. He looked and looked for it and then found it stuck in the 5cm gap between our garage and the garage next door. Poor kitty!

Dad couldn't get the kitty out, I think it was stuck. So he called the RSPCA and waited for them to come and get the kitty out. When the lady from the RSPCA came, she brought people from a telly show with her! They were from the show Animal Rescue. Mum and dad don't watch it but I know about it.

The poor kitty wouldn't come out even though I went and sniffed at it and meowed to make him come out. The telly show people filmed me and everything! So the RSPCA people called the fire department to come and get the kitty out, coz he wouldn't move even when they offered him my nice huffle food with gravy and everything.

Then a big red fire truck came with its lights flashing and there were three firemen who said they would have to put a hole in the wall to get the kitty out. Dad wasn't very happy but he couldn't see any other way to do it either. I had to go upstairs and have a nap then because it was too exciting for me.

The firemen started banging on the wall with a big hammer and the kitty moved! Eventually they got him out and only had to break two bricks on the corner of the garage. Dad was happy about that and so was mum when she got home to find a fire truck out the front and all these people in her back yard.

The whole adventure took about four hours. Dad wasn't very impressed but he loves kitties so he didn't mind so much. The lady from the telly show said she will ring and tell dad when I'm gonna be on the telly show.

So exciting!!

Storm cat

Last night there was a big storm at our house. I don't like storms. I am afraid of the thunder. There was lots of thunder and lightning, and heavy rain. I was in the backyard when it started raining so I had to run inside really fast.

When the thunder came I went upstairs and hid under the spare bed. Mum looked for me for ages before she found me. I didn't come out til mum and dad went to bed, then I came and sat in the bathroom with them while they brushed their teeth. I'm glad no-one tries to brush my teeth.

Salvador slept on the mum and dad's bed so I had to sleep downstairs in my bed. I'm sure he does it just to annoy me. Luckily there was no more thunder.

Relaxing

Do you like my new pet? He's a virtual cat. If you pat his belly he will purr, and if you rub his head he will meow at you. Also sometimes he likes to try and swat the mouse pointer if it's near him (we love mouses). His name is Maukie. I might have to give him a new name, I don't know if I like that one.

Today's the end of a four day long weekend. I spent the morning sitting on mum's lap, then I went and slept on my huffle chair for a few hours. Dad went to work (even though it's a holiday, he's a workaholic) and mum went shopping and I slept in my chair nearly all day.

This evening I've been wandering around randomly meowing at dad. He doesn't speak cat so he doesn't know that I'm trying to tell him that mum went shopping and didn't bring me home a new mouse. What is the good of sending her out with a credit card if she doesn't use it???

Long weekend

I had another spack last night. It was in the middle of the night and I woke mum and dad up. It was great! They say I sound like a herd of elephants when I hoon up the stairs after a spack. I don't know what they're talking about, I'm not the size of an elephant!

This is an elephant:

I don't think I look like an elephant at all so how could I sound like one? Mum and dad are silly.

Keep them guessing

I just had the BEST huffle spack. I was at the back door and galloped all the way to the front of the house, did a screeching u-turn (we have big shiny tiles downstairs so it's hard for a black cat to get a grip) and bolted up the stairs. Mum and dad were astounded.

When I come down the stairs, I do a kind of bunny hop with both my back paws together. I've never lived in a house with stairs before so I didn't know how they worked when I first got here. I do my best!

Cooler Cat

It's so much nicer at home today. Only 23deg C which is very civilised. Black cats like me don't like it when it's too hot. This morning I wanted to go outside but dad chased me back in the house. I am not allowed to stay outside while mum and dad are at work. Apparently they don't trust me or something. Most of the time I don't mind but today I wanted to go out!

Here is a photo of my newest mouse. Actually it's a duck. Mum laughed because the package said mouse. I like it a lot. This morning mum came downstairs and found the duck sitting up on the mat next to the front door. I'm not telling how I got it to sit so nicely!

Hot Mouses

Mum bought me a new mouse on the weekend. Actually she bought me two! This is one:

I think it looks more like a hedgehog (at least what I think a hedgehog looks like; we don't have them in Australia) but it's cute and I like it.

It's still hot here. It's after 7pm and still 38deg C outside. I don't like it.

HOT!!!!

I don't really like it when it's too hot. Today it's 39deg C here. I'm inside where it's air conditioned. I went outside for a bit before but it was too hot.

I finally convinced mum to take some photos of my mouses to show you. Here are all my current favourites lined up against the wall:

Here is my all time favourite mouse that mum bought for me when I first came to live here:

He used to have a tail, and ears, and proper eyes, but they sort of got broken when I threw him against the wall. He is the best mouse though. And you can't see from the photo but his plastic insides have teeth marks in them from when I play too rough. And the fur at the back is missing. I don't care, I still love him.

Salvador still hates me.

Hot cat

It is very hot here. I don't like it. I am staying inside where it is a bit cooler. Today the weather forecast is 40deg C. That is insane!

Last night I couldn't sleep on the bed next to mum because Salvador was on the bed. He is mean to me and I don't like it. So I slept downstairs in my bed with all my mouses. Mum has still not taken photos of all my mouses (I don't know how to use the camera, otherwise I would do it myself) so I will try and remind her this weekend.

This is what Salvador looks like:

See how grumpy he looks? I have to put up with that all the time!

Mum and dad opened the cupboard under the stairs last night. I had to go in there immediately to make sure it was safe.

Sleepy time

I spent all last night asleep on the bed next to mum. I like to sleep there. I don't really like to sleep next to dad. Mum smoothes me a spot on the doona so I can curl up all comfy. They bought a whole new king size bed just to make room for me. My domination of the house is beginning!

I spend a lot of time sleeping. Well, that is what mum and dad think I do. Really I spend all that time with my eyes closed thinking about how to take over the house. I heard mum talking about getting a Siberian Husky a few days ago. There is no way I can allow this to happen! There can be no dogs in my house. I'm sure Salvador would back me up on this one.

Too hot

Today it's 37 deg C at home. That's way too hot for a black cat like me. I usually spend Sundays out in the backyard lying in the sun but yesterday was nearly as hot and today (which is a public holiday at my house) it's just way too hot for me. Rudely, mum and dad went out for breakfast and turned the air conditioner off! I must watch how they operate the remote next time so I can turn it on myself in the future.

Grandma and grandpa came for dinner on Saturday night. They are not at all well trained, they didn't bring me any new mouses to play with. I will have to do something about that. And Salvador tried to hit me over the head again, mum yelled at him and he walked away. I think he is saving it up for when no-one's home. I don't know why he tried to hit me in front of everyone, perhaps he likes getting yelled at. He is weird.

My new picture

Mum took the new picture at the top of my blog last night. Something about not being able to photograph a black cat very well inside the house... whatever. If she think I am going to sit still while she points a camera at me she can think again.

I will get mum to take some photos of my mouses so that I can show them to you here. I have about nine mouses, several that I love and one that is my all time favourite. Mum bought it for me the first time she went shopping after bringing me home. It has no tail, no eyes, no ears, and some of the fur is missing but I still play with it. Apparently the sound of the plastic insides hitting the tiles wakes mum up sometimes at night but I don't care. I am a cat and I will do what I like.

My brother

My older brother Salvador, who is not black like me, doesn't like me. I don't know why.

When I first arrived home with mum and dad he glared at me and ignored me for a few days. Then he started walking up to me and hitting me on the head. Mum yelled at him for that. He'd walk away and then hit me again when no-one was looking. A few months later he started hiding on top of the coffee table (which is taller than I am) and then jumping on my head when I walked past. Mum and dad yelled at him for that too but he doesn't care. He still does it sometimes.

Mum and dad bought me a nice bed when they brought me home but I couldn't sleep in it for three months because Salvador decided he wanted it. He was bigger than me then, I was so afraid of him.

He also used to eat all my food so now we have to be fed dinner in separate places. He still tries to eat my food but dad watches me to make sure I get enough before he barges in to take over.

If he was nicer to me, we could team up against mum and dad and take over this house. Then there'd be dinner three times a day and yummy snack and lots of new play mouses all the time. I know mum has at least two credit cards, we could buy lots of cat things on e-bay!

Mum got a new car this week. I went and sniffed all around it but there were no mouses to be found. Maybe she'll go and get some with her new car (mum, are you reading this?).

How I got here

When I was nearly five years old, I ended up at the Cat Protection Society shelter in Greensborough. I had been there for about three months when mum and dad came to rescue me. They looked at lots of kitties but I was the only one who didn't try and scratch dad when he patted me. They looked into my eyes and were instantly under my spell.

That was at Christmas in 2005. Mum bought me for dad as a Christmas present. I think I am the best present he has ever received.

Nobody really knows how or why I ended up at the Cat Protection Society and I can't really talk about it. The CPS people were nice to me and gave me food and shelter but I was afraid of all the other cats, and I didn't get to eat enough because I was so scared.

When mum and dad took me to my fur-ever home, and I had food available all the time (except when Salvador is eating, but that's another story) I ate so much I made myself sick. And I got very fat! Now my fur is nice and shiny and smooth, and I'm not quite so fat - just festively plump.

Mum and dad think I might have been abused as a little kitten. I was so afraid of people when they first brought me home, and when a man in big boots came to visit I ran away from him. And I HATE having my belly touched. No belly rubs for me, they scare me. I growl and try to bite dad when he does that to me.

But I'm so happy in my new home!

Hello

So this is my first post. I'm a cat. My mum is helping me with the typing because I can't do it (I don't really understand computers, to be honest. But don't tell her that).

You're probably wondering why I'm called Huffle Mawson. My real name is Stella but mum called me Huffle Mawson because I like to huff at things. Because I can. I'm a cat, I can do what I like. My second name is Mawson after the antarctic explorer. I like to find out about new things. Some might say I am nosy.

I live with my mum and dad, and my older brother Salvador. He doesn't like me. I don't really know why. I want to be his friend but he just wants to kill me.

About Me

My name is Huffle Mawson. I am a black cat. My real name is Stella but because I huff at things my mum nicknamed me Huffle, and the name has stuck. My second name is Mawson because I am an Explorer Cat, and I was named after Sir Douglas Mawson, the Antarctic explorer.

Mum and dad rescued me from the Cat Protection Society in December 2005. I had an older brother, Salvador, but he wasn't very nice to me. I tried to be his friend but he just didn't like me. Salvador went to the bridge in February 2009.

I live in Melbourne, Australia with my mum and dad.
