Ask Huffle Thursday

Mr Puddy asked me this question a little while back.  what bring your pawrents to adopted you ? and When you first met your pawrents at the Cat Protection Society. Did you flirt them ? and How ? Me and Mom just love to know the love story when you met your pawrents : )

Well, it's kind of a long story.  If you really want to know, keep reading.

When dad first met mum, nearly eight years ago, he had a cat (poo-face Salvador) and she had a dog (Maxine the rotti).  Dad had just bought a new house and was talking about getting another cat to keep Salvador company.  She decided that for Christmas 2005, she would get him a cat as a present.  Now we all know that a cat (or dog) is not just for Christmas, but she was fairly certain that dad would look after a cat.

So on 28 December they went to visit the Cat Protection Society in Melbourne to find a brother or sister for Salvador.  There was a nice grey kitty they saw first, but another family had already decided to adopt him.  They kept looking and eventually narrowed it down to two kitties - me and another one who looked a bit like poo-face Salvador.

They went inside to ask the staff about our details - age, sex, temperament, etc.  Dad forgot the number that was on the other kitty's tag so he went back out to check it, and that other cat bit him!  Dad decided right there and then that I was the cat for him, because I was a nice quiet girl who didn't bite him.  I just sat on the shelf in the shelter and looked sad.  I was very sad, because I had been there for three months and no-one had even asked about adopting me.  It's hard for black cats to get adopted sometimes; for some reason people are scared of black cats.  But dad said I was a pretty girl and he would take me home.

I have been here ever since.  Mum moved in with us in 2006, and we have been a happy family from that day.

I bet you didn't know that even though mum is the one who helps me with my blog, I am actually daddy's girl!

miss edda is an impulse adoption. we were at the vet to pick up freya (who looks like teddy) and i mentioned that the next cat we'd be thinking about adopting would be a black female. they replied that they had one in the back room and jon said, "let's see her." they brought her out and told us how sweet she was and jon said, "we'll take her." that was almost 8 years ago and i have no regrets about taking home my beautiful little house panther.

That's such a sweet adoption story! And coming from being the Mom to two black kitties (and the most recent angel above - Mocha), I think black kitties just have to wait a little longer for the most special beans. Not just anyone is deserving of a black kitty.

That is a pretty cool story, Huffle. So you are really a Daddy's girl, huh? Mom has a special place in her heart for men who like cats.

Awww, Huffle...It's always the quiet, sad-looking ones that sucker the mom (like Annie and Nicki--lol). We're glad your story had a happy-ever-after, we know so many kitties aren't so lucky.

I think you maybe hinted that the other kitty should bite your male human because you needed a home worse!

Hi Huffle,

Amazing how the right people/kitties turn up! I fell for my Maxie the same way. She's a black kitty, too, and when I was looking for a lady cat to keep Moushe company, the shelter had way too many kitties to choose from. Maxie was almost invisible in the back of the cage but when I I asked a really nice volunteer who might be good company for the shy Moushe she sent me right to Maxie. Max gave me the eye, sniffed me and suggested that leaving the shelter would be just fine with her. The rest is, as they say, history.

What a sweet story, Huffle! It's too bad that you had to wait for all that time for a family, but it seems like you found the perfect one! I always wonder why people are less likely to adopt black cats (dogs, too). I think they're beautiful!

Not biting is a great adoption tactic. I'm a daddy's girl too. The boys are both sooky sooky mummy's boys.

Aww Huffle I can't believe that no one had asked about you before - you are such a beautiful girl!
I do hope the other little cat found a home too eventually, he/she must have been very nervous =^..^=

What a great story!
My Mom adopted me, even though I was infested with ear mites. (You should have seen my real Mom. They had shaved off all her fur to try to control her bugs.)

That's a pawsome story Huffle. It makes me sad that you sat and waited for 3 months because of your fur color. I understand because even though I was an adorable kitten (if I do say so myself) no one called to ask about me even though my momma and siamese fursiblings got adopted in a nanosecond. That goodness for mommies and daddies who know better!

Black fur rocks!
