Routine

People say that they are comfortable with routines. I have a routine too. It's the "time to go to bed" routine and it happens every single night in our house.

10.15pm: I tell dad it's time to start packing up for bed. He ignores me for 10 minutes.

10.30pm: I run to the coffee table and sit and wait for the red dot to make its appearance.

10.35 - 10.40pm: I attack the red dot until I am tired and fall over.

10.40pm: Dad picks me up, I protest, and he carries me up the stairs.

10.40 and 10 seconds pm: Dad puts me down at the top of the stairs, I pause, he tickles my pantaloons, I yell at him and run into the bedroom and jump on the bed.

10.40 and 20 seconds pm: Mum throws Mr Mouse on the bed and I play with him

10.43pm: I go in the bathroom and get in the shower to get my paws and tail wet, so I can stomp all over dad and get him wet. (note: this step is optional)

10.45pm: Everyone gets into bed, I jump on dad, then walk up and down him, then sit and wait for the doona to get smoothed between mum and dad, so I can lie down comfortably.

10.50pm: Start purring and everyone goes to sleep happy.

What a nice routine, Huffle.

The optional step at 10.43pm is one of my favourites - works every time.

Wow you really have a great routine - we don't have one that is that organized at our house! And we love the 10:43 get wet one - it is so funny!

Great routine you have, Huffle, but we wonder what do you do when the humans leave you and go on a trip? Phantom has a bedtime routine too, at 8:45 he heads to his crate and curls into his donut ball position. You get a lot better bedtime location than we do.

That is a good routine. Our routine is to stand at the door and cry to go out at two minutes before mum goes to bed, then we come in with muddy feet and demand more food or we will walk muddy paws all over the bed. Works every time.

That is beautiful. To think these people are crazy enough to leave you for occasional weekends. Go figure.

Just more evidence of your importance in house. Without you showing mum and dad what to do, they would never know how to go to sleep.

Your dad is a lucky lucky guy! Our katz, after a similar routine, don't stop walking all over all of us! They're sleepless in LA, I believe.
Loved your post, Huffle.

That sounds like a fun routine. Here, all that happens is my human herds us all into the bedroom, and as soon as she starts to change into her sleep shirt, we all run back out of the bedroom again. If we're all lucky, her boyfriend sleeps through it all, otherwise he gets kinda grouchy about it.

You play a vital role!

That sounds like a good routine. I think I might adopt some variety if it but it will have to be early in the evening because my humans go to bed at the same time as old people.

Aw, that's sounds so lovely! I sleep on the stair landing during the evening till bedtime. Dad goes to bed at like 10 pm, but I hang out with mom till about 1 am. I know its seriously bedtime when she sends me out to "go pee-pee" and then I get a biscuit with a little pb on it.

a-roos to yous,
jack a-roo & moo too

hey Huffle Mawson,

I must bark that you have a very sweet bedtime routine. You and your humans obviously have a lot of love for each other and it is very heartening to read. Thanks for sharing this sweet picture into your (private) life!

Is a doona the same thing as a comforter? I like to lay on our soft fluffy comforter. You have a very nice routine Huffle.

My red dot shows up at bedtime too!

Love the optional step! I can't do that one because the shower door is closed. My brother Nigel is the bedtime buddy...

Thats a great routine, Huffle, how early do you get up in the morning?

I really like the shower dash part of it.

My Mom is a night owl and I go to bed about 9 pm, then she calls me about 11:30 to go out for a pee, then I come in and we all go to bed.

Kisses,

Stella

So there is not much time for any action in that routine. Lucky you are there to stop the snuggling.

I like to suck water out of the bathroom tap and leave muddy pawprints all over the bath (or white sheets), for my mum to find in the morning.

Hey Huffle,
Boy, you kinda get a lot of stuff without the hassles we go through. By the time mom and dad want to go to bed there are usually between 4 to 6 dogs already covering it. Dad moves bodies around so that mom can get into bed. J.E.B. is exiled to the bathroom tile where he'll eventually go anyway. homer J. and Jubal get senority rights at the bottom of the bed. Jack lays crosswise above dad's head (dad makes room because Jack will eventually go in with J.E.B.). Abby lays up between mom and dad's heads. Shelby Belle washes mom and dad's faces until dad's had enough and tells her to lay down. She'' the sometimes lay down between Abby and the old boys oir else go down on the carpet next to the bed with Sophie. Max and Shiloh are downstairs in crates in the kennel. Boru sleeps on the top of the living room sofa. Jenny sleep under mom and dad's bed. About 5-10 minutes after lights out, when everyone is just about asleep, Alex will jump up the bed and walk up dad's crouch and try to plop on dad's chest but dad will push him back down and alex then sleeps between dad's knees. Then we can all go to sleep unless Radar, in his crate at the foot of the bed, start crinkling his empty water bottles or playing with other toys. Radar is not affected by "lights out" as his entire world is "lights out." Evntually he gets tired and goes to sleep. So your routine is much, much, easier. We are all jealous. Try readjusting the "doona" once all the dogs are in place.
